K for Keeping the Faith
K for Keeping the Faith
It can be very difficult to keep the faith in your business idea especially in the early days when clients are hard to come by and your confidence may be low.
How do you keep going?
Making friends and connections
For me it was finding other like minded individuals at networking events - FREE to start with as income was minimal and patchy.
There are many that you can attend for FREE - such as Ladies Who Latte, Meet-up groups and more.
Membership groups maybe FREE for the first few times but then you have to make a decision and pay for a Membership - such as 4Networking, Women Mean Biz etc.
Business Support Services
I found that Business West was a godsend when I first started as they offered 12 hours free training for new start-ups. I undertook a training day in Marketing Made Easy and then agreed the rest on a one-to-one mentoring basis.
I set goals each week and met up with my mentor for accountability and to remember how far I had come. I started this blog as a way to do this too.
I have recently taken up an offer of a free mentoring service by a new counsellor who is asking for feedback in return. I found this via a business Facebook group and it has been great!. I have learned so much and it has allowed me to work through a few difficult situations that were new to me recently.
I am hoping that one day I will be able to afford a regular Coach to support me although I am very fortunate that I belong to the Bookkeepers Alliance too and can access mini mentoring sessions as part of my membership.
Questioning if you are doing the right thing?
I regularly question whether self-employment is for me and I have been told that even bookkeepers who have been in business for many years have moments of feeling like this.
Having been employed since I was 17 years old (apart from maternity leave) until I took the plunge last April, I still miss the togetherness of office life. All the friendly people I have made through Networking helps to counter this. Many of these people have now become firm friends that I see outside the events I attend.
I am lucky to have such a mix of new friends - bookkeepers and other business women.
I am going to keep the FAITH for as long as I can and seek out support when I need it from family and friends.
Who do you reach for when you feel like giving up?
How do you keep the FAITH?
Thanks for reading and speak again soon
