A to Z of my Bookkeeping Journey - C for Confidence

C for confidence and clients
Confidence is a tough one isn't it?
I was a very shy child but I don't know if this was nature or nurture.
It really took me until my mid 20's when I had my first son to gain some confidence or was it just being a 'mother lion' protecting her young.
I had to spend many hours waiting to see doctors with him and being his spokesperson.
At work I was confident in my abilities but not always allowed to grow and felt stunted many times.  I wasn't really in charge and I knew I had the drive if I could just find a way to use it for myself
Now that I have started my own business I seem to be able to go to networking and hold my own because it's something I care about.  It helps me with the nerves.
Everyone I meet is friendly and supportive and I really want it all to work out.
Now to the client bit...still working on this as any new business person knows.
I go to events, post on social media, get lots of support from other bookkeepers and my family but it can drain your confidence from time to time.
I don't have my own 'mother lion' but I do
have an amazing 'lion' in my husband and I will keep plodding on with my dream of helping others by doing what I enjoy.
How do you keep believing? Any tips on helping others?

  1. What an engaging post. It is so refreshing to hear you talk openly about (occasionally) struggling with confidence. I really like your lion concept. I think it was probably having to provide for my family that kept me going - failure was just not an option.

  2. Confidence is essential as without it even the most able can under-perform. I find that if I imagine a positive outcome and before tackling a job then I am more likely to succeed as this boosts my confidence.

    1. Thanks Roland. I will try that technique. It worked in my exams.
